Susan Benham, Vice President & Chief Philanthropy Officer, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital

Sue has led the philanthropy program at Memorial since 2007. She is also the Policy & Advocacy Liaison for Memorial as well as the Mission Leader.

She graduated Magana cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in political science and earned her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.

After practicing law for twenty years she transitioned into non-profit fundraising.  Along the way, from 2000-2012, she served three terms on the Bakersfield City Council, representing Ward 2. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce and the Maddy Institute, as well as on the Advisory Council for the Grimm Family Education Foundation.

She was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger as an original member of the California Partnership of the San Joaquin Valley and was a founding member of the Kern County Women Lawyers Association. Sue and her husband, Herb, have raised four children and are now enjoying three wonderful grandchildren.
