“Big 5 Reception” Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of The Maddy Institute

06May
Today, Monday, May 6th, The Maddy Institute will be hosting its annual “Big 5 Reception”, with Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Legislative Leadership in a private event at the California Museum in Sacramento to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Legislature’s unanimous vote to create the non-partisan Maddy Institute. The funds raised will support the work of The Maddy Institute, including its Bob Beverly Sacramento Legislative Intern Scholarship Program that provides students paid legislative internships at the State Capitol.

Willie Brown former Speaker of the Assembly and Mayor of San Francisco will be Master of Ceremonies.

The late Senator Ken Maddy believed strongly in bi-partisan problem solving and public service—and he wanted the Institute to help promote the next generation through legislative intern programs, stating: “One of the things we want to do is get young people involved in politics. The Institute should teach students about the complexity of a democracy at work and the
passionate issues that motivate constituents and their elected
representatives.”
