Speakers:

Assemblymember Juan Alanis (AD 22) embarked on his public service journey at 21 as a law enforcement officer, dedicating nearly three decades to protecting others. He’s received accolades for saving lives, including rescuing a child from a burning house. The 22nd Assembly District, where he resides with his family, holds deep personal significance. He aims to leverage his public safety expertise in Sacramento, advocating for policies that enhance Californians’ safety and reduce living costs for working-class families. Additionally, he vows to safeguard the Central Valley’s water rights and champion the agricultural and business communities in the district.

Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (AD 31) is the first Latino physician to serve in the State Assembly. His experience as an emergency room doctor in Selma fueled his dedication to improving healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations. As Chair of Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 1 on Health and Human Services until June 2023, he focused on healthcare access and affordability, advocating for initiatives such as full-scope Medi-Cal for all income-eligible adults. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he facilitated free vaccination and food distribution in underserved communities. Arambula also addressed the shortage of medical providers in the Central Valley and secured millions of dollars for various community projects, including climate initiatives, infrastructure improvements, and educational programs. Born in Delano and raised in Fresno, Arambula graduated from Bowdoin College and the University of Minnesota Medical School before returning to Fresno to practice medicine. His parents, Juan and Amy Arambula, instilled in him a commitment to public service. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have three daughters.

Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria (AD 27) is a first-generation American and daughter of farm workers who knows firsthand about hard work and sacrifice, having worked alongside her parents in the Central Valley’s agricultural fields throughout her childhood. She then worked her way through college and law school. Assemblymember Soria served as an educator, community advocate, and Fresno City Councilmember. As Councilmember, Soria led efforts to increase public safety and community development, create thousands of  good-paying jobs, build affordable and accessible housing, tackle homelessness, and expand access to parks and greenspace. Soria also fought to deliver millions of dollars in funding to the Central Valley for water, new health clinics, and local public schools. Soria will continue fighting for the residents of the Central Valley while in Sacramento on the issues that matter the most to them. She was born and raised in the Central Valley.
