Maddy Daily Editor


In January, 2009, the Maddy Institute launched the Maddy Daily, a chronicle of San Joaquin Valley and State public policy issues and politics.  Michael Lukens has been the Editor of the Maddy Daily since its inception.

As the Maddy Daily editor, Michael is responsible for the general content of the Maddy Daily, as well as ensuring that the article summaries accurately reflect the article’s content.  He also makes sure that the Daily is produced in a timely manner each day.

Currently, Michael teaches political science at California State University, Fresno and Fresno City College.

Prior to joining the Maddy Institute, Michael had over 26 years of governmental experience at the local, state and federal levels.  He served as press secretary for Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin for five years, communications director for Cong. George Radanovich (R) CA – 19) and communications director for the Fresno State Office of Community and Economic Development.

A former newspaper reporter, Michael also served in the Governor’s Press Office for four Pennsylvania governors — two Democrats and two Republicans — and worked in press offices in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and a number of Pennsylvania state agencies.

Michael received a B.S. in Public Policy from Penn State University and an M.P.A. from California State University, Fresno.
